Welcome MN Blog Hoppers! It’s only our second day of the blog hop, and already there has been lots of buzz and excitement. For those of you who haven’t heard about it, click here to find out what it’s all about.
First, let’s start with an introduction, just in case we haven’t met before. That’s me over on the side bar to the right. As you can see, I’m a quilt pattern and fabric designer. I’ve been in the business for 13 years now, designing under the name of Anka’s Treasures. To read more about me and to find out who Anka is, click here. It will only take a minute – I’ll just wait here.
The name of my blog is Trends and Traditions – where you will find a fresh perspective to traditional quilting. I’m always looking for new trends in design and color combinations and striving to bring you stylish, fun and fresh patterns. I understand that quilters are busy people, so I love to use simple tricks and techniques to make things come together easily and quickly. To see what I’m talking about, you can click here to view the inspirations tab on my website. It will show you all you really need to know about me.
As part of the Blog Hop, I am giving everyone a little taste of my style with a free pattern! It’s called Charmed and is just a quick little project that is perfect for summer. Here in Minnesota, we are just getting some warmer weather, so I was in the mood for something summery.

I love the stripe cut on the bias for the binding. For those of you who haven’t cut a stripe on the bias, you can learn how, under the tutorials tab at the top of this page.
Here’s a close-up of the applique.
The appliques are large and simply shaped, with gentle curves that make this project easy enough for an advanced beginner.
To get the pattern, all you have to do is click below and print yourself a copy.
Another thing I love to bring my blog readers is color options. I just love to make the same pattern over again in different colors! I think it’s so interesting to see how the pattern changes, just because of the colors. The Charmed pattern is a perfect example. Here is it with a dramatic black background and bright, funky colors.
See what I mean??? The pattern goes from Charming to Sassy!
As part of the Blog Hop fun, we are having a little gift for our visitors today. You just have to leave us a comment.
Our gift to one lucky person will be a collection of our Little Charmers patterns!
Leaving a comment will also enter you into the drawing for the Grand Prize for the Blog Hop. Aren’t you glad you stopped by today?

What a great idea. Nopw I will never get my reports written. Love the pretty applique patter and all your blog entries.

Hi Heather,
what a beautiful wallhanging ~ thank you so much for sharing this with us. I always love that you do the extra-work (or fun? or both?) to make another, completely different version of your gorgeous designs. It’s one thing to imagine how a pattern would look in a different colorway but a whole different to actually see it ;o)

Thank you for the quilt pattern. It is really sweet! You are so good to share your talent with us. Several months back you posted your tools of the trade. I am now using the clearly perfect angles sheet on my sewing bed. It has really improved my accuracy. Thank you so much for that tip. I picked up a copy of your Livin’ Large quilt pattern book at my LQS. I think it is great that you provided the yardage for both layer cakes and fat quarters. Always nice to have options. The patterns are fabulous. I rarely find a book where I love every pattern but this book is the exception.

Heather, what a wonderful pattern! I’ve been quilting for just over 9 years, started just before my first son was born. And I’ve loved every minute of it. I shied away from applique thinking it would take too long (hand applique) and I’d never get anything finished. But then I took a class and was hooked. I’d done cross-stitch before so hand applique wasn’t that much different. I’ve come to realize just how much I enjoy hand work, be it applique or even turning a binding! Thanks for this great pattern, and I know just what fabrics I’m going to use for it!

Yes, I am very glad I stopped by today! Thanks for the charming little quilt pattern. I would love to win the Little Charmer patterns. When I think of Spicer, I can remember listening to school cancellations and when I would hear New London/Spicer, I knew I had to listen up because Prior Lake would either come soon or not. Our kids are grown and we have since then moved out to Henderson. School cancellations are no longer a worry although I still love a good “Snow Day”.

I loved reading about your grandmother. She sounds amazing. I was pretty young when my grandmother passed away, so I look back now and wish I could have learned much more about her. She came from Germany as a young woman in 1927, and I can just imagine the stories she would have told! She did have a chance to teach me a little bit about crocheting though. Thanks for the free pattern. It’s neat to see the two diffferent versions. I’m currently in an online quilt along and it’s amazing to see all the different versions of the same quilt! Thanks also for an exciting giveaway! I love the table runner.

The blog hop is a great way to meet a talented group of Minnesotas-I’m from CT, a quilter and sewer of small projects. I’ve just tried my first machine applique-I’ve always done hand applique-so your pattern is very timely for me. Better yet, I love the style of your design and your fabrics. This will look just right over my grandmother’s treadle sewing machine. Thanks for your generous offer. Kathleen
