Around the Corner

It has been just a gorgeous weekend here at the lake in Minnesota.  We’ve had mostly rain the last week or so, so it was wonderful to have some sun and warm weather.

That nice weather gave me a chance to take a few pictures for this post.  Thank goodness for that, as grey, dreary weather does nothing for quilt photos.  This post will show the last of the three patterns I’m going to  market with this week.  Like the others, this one has a few options to choose from!

Here’s the cover –

I decided to call it “Around the Corner” after one of my favorite movies “You’ve Got Mail.”   The bookstore in the movie is called “The Shop Around the Corner”.  As a kid, I would have loved that store, or even now as an adult.  The movie makes the bookstore come alive and seem like an actual place.  All the corners in this quilt pattern reminded me of that movie and the shop’s cute nam.

I’d also like to share a few photos of the quilts individually.  The irregular shaped one is going to be used as a table-cloth on my dining room table and features the non-holiday prints from my “At Home for the Holidays” fabric line.

It could also be used as a tree skirt, as the one below will be when I get around to finishing it.  I’m going to cut a hole in the center and add a facing to finish it off.  I prefer not to cut the slit down the side of the quilt, as is typically done with a tree skirt.  This way I can still use it as a tablecloth with the use of a strategically placed center piece to cover the hole.

Here’s a close-up of the prints I used for the tree skirt.  They are by fellow Henry Glass Designer Barbara Jones.  It’s her new line that just dropped last week and it’s currently my favorite (specifically) holiday line.

Barbara also designed the prints used in the runner shown on the front cover.  It’s a combination of her Simply Sweet and Bubblegum Basic lines.

A little quilting detail . . .

The larger throw size quilt is shown below.  The pattern also includes options for twin and queen size quilts.  As far as fabric goes, almost any of your favorite precuts will work, with the addition of a background and border print.

By the way, this quilt is made with my Widlflowers fabric line that came out last January.

We also have the throw size quilt done up in Sanibel.  It’s hanging out in the garage in our mock “market booth”.  The lighting out there isn’t very good, but at least you can see what the design looks like with a light background too.

I think that covers everything for today.  If you would like to be entered into a drawing for this pattern, just leave me a comment.  I will pick the winners for all three drawings (from the last two posts) on Wednesday morning, so stop back then!

  165. Nancy says:

Heather, Just had to tell you…I sold my old sewing machine (22 yrs old) about 2 months ago and hubby told me to keep the $$ for my quilting. Well, I didn’t want to impulse buy just because I could so I have been waiting for just the right thing. As soon as I saw your Around the Corner table cloth, I knew I had to make a quilt with the same fabrics. It was so funny because when I got to my favorite quilt store, they had just put the new At Home For the Holidays fabrics out. I couldn’t quite get the entire line but I did get everything I needed for a twin size quilt in the same colors as the table cloth. I’m hoping I’ll have enough left over to make a smaller version of the table cloth. I have never been able to buy everything I needed at once, or a beautiful fat quarter bundle (which I still haven’t managed yet, but will some day)…but getting everything from the same fabric line AND the first cut off the bolts was really fun. When I told the clerks (who weren’t very busy just then, so all of them were gathered around ooing and ahhing) what I was making, the manager immediately added “Around the Corner” pattern book to their next order and told me she couldn’t figure out how in the world she had missed it at Market. I went home and ordered the pattern book from the Fat Quarter Shop and my day was complete and my heart was full, even though my wallet was empty, LOL. Thank you for ‘making my day’ with your wonderful pictures, patterns, and fabrics that I always love.

  166. Carol says:

    Love the runners!
