For our pattern of the week we are going to do something a little different. Not only can you win the pattern, we are giving away the kit to go with it!!!!!! I designed the pattern to go with my Serenity fabric line that came out last November. The quilt is 81″ x 94″. The kit includes fabric for the quilt top and the binding fabric. If you are interested in the pattern, go to www.henryglassfabrics.com . See the stripe used in the border and binding? You can practice my quick-cut bias binding technique on the stripe!
Here’s that quilt in my downstairs family room – Photo courtesy of American Patchwork and Quilting
See those scraps hanging on the wall? This is what I did with them:
I stretched the fabric over a canvas, stapled it down and hung it in a grid. I just didn’t have it finished whn APQ was at my house photographing. Somehow, those scraps got lost in the shuffle and weren’t taken down before the picure was taken. Oops!
Would you like to see something else done with Serenity?
When this fabric showed up, I decided to redecorate this bathroom to go with it – they both have a vintage feel that work well together. I just painted the walls tan, the tub blue, and made the small wall quilt (called the everyday Table Topper from my book Charmed and Dangerous). When I got the artwork back, I framed it and hung it on the wall. See –
I also used this fabric to make the projects from “The Kitchen Collection” – a grouping that I designed with my mom. All you need is a charm pack, your favorite floral for the apron, and some border prints.
Now that I’ve shown you a few things to do with Serenity, I better add another give-away! I’ll add a Rollie Pollie – that a 5″ strip from everything in the line. You can cut it up into charms or jellies or whatever you wish! Can you tell I love to give away things? The Rollie Pollie is courtesy of my fabric company, Henry Glass.
To sign up for the give-away- just leave me a comment. This time I would like to hear about one or two of your favorite blogs. Have a great weekend!
Heather
What a cute idea to wrap the fabric around a canvas and hang it on the wall, it’s very pretty.
I’ve been making a lot of your table runners lately, to give away for Christmas gifts, they are super addicting.
Love this pattern you are giving away, it’s nice!
A few of My favorite blogs are (it’s hard to pick):
http://quiltoholiker.blogspot.com/
http://creativethread.blogspot.com/
ooooh….count me in for the give-away. Two blogs I read regularly are Kim’s Big Quilting Adventure and Sawdust and Cowpies. The first one is about one California woman’s quilting and everyday funny stories. The second one is a guy in Missouri who tells hilarious stories and is just always interesting and down-to-earth. His sense of humor tickles my funny bone.
I love how you used the fabric over canvas…great idea! I want to do that…tonight LOL! Gosh I have sooo many blogs in my blog list that it’s hard to pick….let’s see….Sharon at http://www.redgeraniumcottage.typepad.com and Kim at http://www.kimsbigquiltingadventure.blogspot.com aremy top 2 favorites……
Wow, what a giveaway!
I would have to say two of my favorite blogs in the crafting realm are A Quilt is Nice and Crazy Mom Quilts.
I am somewhat new to quilting–I’ve only ever handquilted one crib size, one piece quilt. I’ve not yet done any piecing or machine quilting. This would be such a fun way to get started!
I tried to leave a comment once and it didn’t work so I am going to try this again! I love the idea of fabric over canvas. I want to do that tonight! my favorite blogs are Sharon at redgeranium cottage and Kim’s at Kim’s big quilting adventure…but I have like 50 blogs on my blog list….
What a peaceful quilt! I love the scraps on the wall too! My favorite blog currently is Bonnie Hunter’s http://quiltville.blogspot.com/. She has such a way with scrap quilts. I also love Gudrun Erla’s http://www.gudrun.typepad.com/. She was recently at Morning Quilter’s with a tremendous trunk show. I love to support and check out our Minnesota designers. Keep up the eye candy and information you provide.
Hopefully I’m doing this right since I’m new to the blogging world. My favorite site is Cindy at hyacinthquiltdesigns. Cindy is local and I’ve taken one of machine quilting classes. She is so knowledgeable and patient. I love this line of fabric- I have a couple pieces that I couldn’t resist.
Thank you Heather for sharing your talents. In addition to your blog, I enjoy Joan Hawley’s Lazy Girl Designs blog.
I love the fabrics and the pattern is great. My two favorite blogs are Jen aka Cre8tive Quilter http://cre8tivequilter.blogspot.com/ and Jill aka Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor http://jillquilts.blogspot.com/ Both are young quilters like myself who have found a friendship in quilting and are always looking to be more prolific. They are both awesome quilters and friends.
Oh I can’t imagine how high I would JUMP if I won!!!! Not a pretty picture, but I would be that happy!!!! Two of my favorite blogs right now have touched my heart deeply. They are Nie Nie Dialogues and her sister’s blog C Jane enjoy It. If anyone has not been to these sites I beg you to go…and then I ask you to contribute with prayers or donations. Both are much needed.
What a beautiful blog you have!! I just bought one of your patterns on my vacation in Lake Tahoe.
Sharon aka red geranium cottage and Kim’s are also my top two blogs!!!
I love all of your fun decorating ideas! Two of my favorite blogs are PamKittyMorning and My Yellow Farmhouse. Those gals are so fun 🙂
I’ve only recently started reading quilting blogs and my list is growing but it would be hard to pick out a favorite — there’s so much inspiration! My favorite non-quilting blogs belong to my daughter and daughter-in-law because they keep me so informed of my far away grandkids.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the scrap canvas idea. I always get carried away with my fabric purchases. What a great way to use some of the scraps. I would love to be entered into the drawing!!!
There are so many wonderful blogs I visit regularly so it’s hard to pick two as favorites.
Here are two I really enjoy:
Polka Dot Pineapple (http://mousechirpy-polkadotpineapple.blogspot.com/) – she makes the cutest projects
Kate’s Quilting (http://katesquilting.blogspot.com/)
What a wonderful, generous giveaway!!!
I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed.
I’m an absolute beginner, so my favourite blogs and websites right now are the ones with basic “How To” information and tips and tricks to get started. I’ve quilted three whole blocks, but I’d love to see what I could do with a Real quilting project!
How creative to stretch fabric over canvas! I have the perfect little corner to hang it to coordinate with my “couch quilt”. I have been making your patterns for years (at least 6!) but just found out you had a blog. I followed a link here from one of my favorite blogs – Crazy for Primitive Quilts and Gardens.
Love the Serenity pattern and fabric! I also love the canvas idea. My favorite blogs are Red Geranium Cottage and Primitive Quilts and Gardens.
Love the framed fabric canvasses – even the stretched ones. Great idea!
Two of my favorite blogs are Passing Down Crazy (http://passingdowncrazy.wordpress.com) (she’s a knitter AND a quilter) and Big Mama (http://thebigmamablog.com/)
I like to read http://thepioneerwoman.com/ but I think she is not such a secret.
I’d love to win this kit for my MIL. she makes her quilts the old fashioned way… no machine! what heirlooms they are! I usually help her cut her fabric with a rotary cutter.
I like to read blogs that are informative and give inspiration and yet are ‘real life’. Of course, yours is one of my favorites…I love seeing the photos and reading about your quilting life.
I also like Ami Simms “Through the Eyes of a Quilter”. Ami is funny, especially when she has writings from her dog. She talks alot about her Mom and Alzheimers and hoping for a cure. I think alot about my Dad (who is gone now) when I read her blog.
I have many others on my list, and it’s neat to read them and see that we share so many things besides quilting…but it is the quilting ‘thread’ that ties us together. Reading about fabric and patterns designers makes me want to make their projects…you know they are real people, not just sitting at a desk.
Thanks for letting me express these things. And as always, thanks for all you do for us in the World of Quilting.
I hope you will tell us all about MARKET…I’ve been to Festival, but would LOVE to go to Market one day!
Absolutely love that apron and runner!
Oh, your house is sooooooooo beautiful, I really need to finish my UFOs so I can hang them up. And I love the fabric/canvas idea – I’ll have to find a place to do that in my house.
Love those decorating ideas. I have so many favorite blogs. Let me see…http://leanneshouse.typepad.com/ and
http://all-stitched-up.blogspot.com/. Of course they both come after yours.
It’s really hard to pick just 2 blogs – there are so many good ones. OK I’ll pick – Fresh Figs and Bunny Tales. I tried your technique for cutting binding – love it!
Beautiful fabrics and an interesting pattern. Enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for offering the “contests”. All the best to you. Gayle
Ooohh. The bathroom is gorgeous and I’d love to have a soak in that tub. I can’t think of anything that would inspire me to get off my butt and do some sewing than to win the giveaway. A couple of my favourite blogs (at this moment) are Posy and Anna Maria Horner. But I find it hard to pick. I must have a list of 30 “favourites” and then I skip around a lot.
I love the wonderful vintage look of your new fabric line! Beautiful! My favorite blogs are Bunny Tales (Anne Sutton with Bunny Hill Designs), Moonbeams in a Jar (because Mary Anne has a wonderful crazy sense of humor), and my quilting friends The Quilting Booklady (Becky), Life in the Slow Lane (Karin), and Silver Thimble Talk (Pat Wys of Silver Thimble Quilt Co.).
That fabric is gorgeous! So serene… fav blogs? Oh boy, I like PamKittyMorning’s blog and Holly Holderman’s blog (wish she would write more often) and Judy L’s and Bonnie Hunters, and Sister’s Choice and Anyone Can Quilt…the list goes on and on. Another favorite blog is The Pioneer Woman’s blog…she’s a hoot and very enjoyable.
Oh, is that palette wonderful! Here’s to hoping! I read Pioneer Woman everyday, and Tallgrass Prairie Studio when ever she blogs. I have a bunch that I come back to all the time, but these two are always the first stops. Though Camille at Simplify ranks pretty high up there as well:)
Obviously I love your blog – just love the fabrics and all your patterns. I read many blogs, but have had to put myself on a ‘blog diet’ otherwise I lose just too much time! Two that I read regularly are Material Obsession and Rosalie Quinlan, both from Australia. I appreciate they update them regularly (unlike my own) and like yours, are full of inspirational ideas. Thanks Heather.
What a generous giveaway. My favorite blogs are Pam Kitty Morning (she is just darling!!!) And Bunny tales. I’m a sucker for quilting and animals……. and honest to goodness girltalk!!! I have the Charmed and Dangerous Book. Thanks for the great ideas for all the charm packs I buy or have been gifted 🙂 Kathie
Love your bathroom! that’s a strange thing to love about a person! My favorite blogs are my daughter’s Random According to Nancy and I like TallGrassPrairie and and and Here’s hoping to win from IDAHO!!! Thanks for all the photos and lovely fabric!
I love your new fabric line and all the ideas you’ve given for it, especially decorating and painting your bathroom around it!
I’m fairly new to your blog and so glad I’ve found it. Other blogs I really enjoy are Sister’s Choice Quilts and Hen and Chicks, to name a few.
Love your SERENITY fabric. I have many favourite blogs that I visit. Many are inspirational – here are just a few that I love to visit – Cathy from Willow Valley Store, Cheryl from Willowberry Designs and Leanne from Leanne’s House.
Tina D (Melbourne)
Love the SERENITY fabric and The Kitchen Collection. Besides Trends & Traditions, I enjoy Kim’s Big Quilting Adventure and Willow Valley Store.
The Serenity fabric is lovely. I read a lot of blogs but my favourite is Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara. I also like Red Geranium Cottage, Leanne’s House and Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville’s Quips and Snips.
One of my favorites is The Elmo Wallpaper, I always find myself thinking, “Yes, that’s exactly it! Why can’t I say it like that?”
I love the pattern and the fabric–here’s hoping!
I read Linda at All-Stitched-Up every time she posts…She is a very sweet, generous, good person and those are hard to come by in this day and age….
I used to read a blog about a little farmhouse in Texas. The lady left her house for a vacation home in the mountains to write and I had a computer crash and lost her address. Sure wish I could find her again….
I love your Serenity fabric. What a great idea the fabric on the canvas squares and I love the apron, pot holders and table runner for the kitchen. The color tones are so soft and pretty. I would love a chance to win the fabric.
The Serenity fabrics are stunning!!
The blog I follow most closely would be auntiesquaintquilts.blogspot.com.
Christine is my sister. She does beautiful work. She made your Crossroads Tablerunner for my birthday in May. Today she’s stitching down the binding on another one for our mum. Such a beautiful pattern.

I just used your bias binding tutorial last week…it was my first time making bias binding ever…and it was a breeze–thanks! As for my favorite blogs…I love the Pink Penguin blog…she has great tutorials, and Red Geranium Cottage is wonderful as is Loft Creations and…oh there are just too many to name!
I LOVE all the ideas you give on your pattern of the week! Way fun! Too funny, I just put some fabric over 12×12 boards for my family room! It turned out so cute. I’ll have to do a post on them. I have so many favorite blogs I don’t know who to send you to! I’ll list a few that were the very first blogs I found and still visit often. I picked up the pattern sheet at my local quilt shop several months ago, but didn’t make the connection until I read your blog tonight! No wonder I liked the pattern!
I enjoy reading Bonnie Hunter’s blog.
Keep up the good work!
Wow I love your place so much and the fabric really does match it! The canvas idea is fantastic. Fabric as art other than a quilt – fabulous! As for blogs, I am ashamed to admit that I am subscribed to over 200 – I love them – can’t get enough! I really love Nanette’s blog – http://fredashive.blogspot.com/ and always save it as one of the last I read. She does such great stuff:)
I’m lovin’ this line. I also really like your blue bathtub. We had a blue bathtub in the house I grew up in. Now for some of my favorite blogs…humm…I really like Pink Penguin, Quilt Taffy, Red Geranium Cottage …oh there are just too many..
Try this again. I love the Serenity Line, gorgeous fabrics. I like what you have done going beyond a quilt with the fabric. One of my favorite blogs has to be RedGeraniumCottage because I have too much in common with Sharon, so says me 🙂
I also love FredasHive, talk about a truely nice person! Glad I found your blog.
I love blogs that provide inspiration and provide great ideas that I can then interpret it make it my design. A couple of blogs I love are Pioneer Woman and Painted threads. Two different blogs but I love them just for that. I have bought your patterns before and love your blog! I would love to win your giveaway as my son just got married and I always make a quilt for the newlyweds. I know my new daughter-in-law would love the pattern and fabrics. She is new to quilting and those are her colors. Have a wonderful weekend!
Laura

What a fabulous giveaway!
This is my first time here and I arrived via Auntie’s Quaint Quilts so that is obviously one of my favourites. I wouldn’t have known about your blog had it not been for Christine.
How do I choose another blog when I like to visit so many…….I’ll go with Chookyblue as I love to see not only her quilting but her beautiful photography.

I’ve also just found the new world of blogs — i started with Mickey Depre and find it all new morning instiration.
Thank you for entering my name in the drawing.
Sharlene Owens
I love how you used the fabrics in new ways! I have several of your books – as I think about it, I’ve selected them more for the decorative quilted pieces – toppers, wall hangings.
I have a bunch of blogs in my reader, but two of my favorites are Judy from Patchworktimes, and Sharon of Red Geranium Cottage. They both share so much of themselves and are so creative!
Wow and Wow! A beautiful room with beautiful quilts and fabric — both of them! I wasn’t going to post, just drool this time. Then I said, but if I win I could work on this project at my retreat in November!
I think I have visited most of the other blogs that have seen posted so far. A couple of my favorites are Happy Zombie, Monica Snow and Freda’s Hive, Nanette. Yours, of course, is one of the best! Thank you.

I just love how peaceful and tranquil it seems. Cute bedroom redo! It is always good to get ideas like that canvas project! How fun is that? I would love to win any of it. . .anyone would. Thanks for giving with such a gracious heart. It will warm someone’s home, I am sure of that.

Good Morning Heather! I’d LOVE to win the kit–I haven’t bought any of this line yet, but have looked at it many times! I don’t read a lot of blogs these days, due to lack of time but yours is my favorite, then I check out my son-in-law and daughters (Heather) blog, but they don’t update very often. I also check up on Deron Arnold’s blog, as he is waiting for a double lung transplant. I’d like a list of quilting or knitting blogs though-then I will get hooked!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Nancy

Hi Heather- just bought a new sleigh bed and need to make a NEW quilt and I love your Serenity – I was thinking that I should paint those old walls the palest pistachio, if I win – I’m SURE of it! I read ‘Passing Down Crazy’ and I adore ‘KnitSpot’ as well many others. Like yourself, I love to quilt and knit … also bead, sew…etc. I think that you have the best job in the world – how does one even BEGIN to get to design fabric????
Hello Heather, I wish I could just reach out and touch the fabrics and see them for real but admiring them onscreen will have to do for now, your fabrics are not available here in Iceland so I have ordered them online as well as your books and pattern wich I have admired for many years. It is very inspiring to see photos of how you decorate your home with the fabrics. I wish you all the best and may your buisness blossom for years to come.
Two inspiring blog that I read – although difficult to choose just two.

Hi Heather,
Ooh, love the colors of your new line of fabric! Please enter me in to the mix for the drawing. A couple of my favorite blogs to read are Bunny Tales, Anne from Bunny Hill ( a fellow Henry Glass designer) and also Becky’s blog, Sweet Cottage Dreams. Thanks for the fabric inspired decorating ideas.
Heather,
I have always treasured your books…and your blog is just one more way you demonstrate your creativity. I love how you blend trendy with traditional…it makes your line unique.
I love the fabrics. Your bathroom turned out beautiful. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with tans and blues.
Gosh, these are lovely fabrics and a great pattern. I also love the ideas to use the fabrics in an other way than making quilts.
Hugs from Holland,
Ineke

My sister’s blog is my favorite. She started on at http://www.tollipop.com and it’s such a fun way to keep up with her life.
wow stunning fabric and great uses of it.
thanks. Count me in the giveaway please
Love the pictures! I like to see how someone can decorate with quilts without going over-the-top i.e. still having a house that would be comfortable to really live in (and not just be a gallery).
As far as blogs go – beyond family & friends, here are two:
http://www.notmartha.org/ – mostly links and some instructions – she seems like a fun/modern/young/creative/crafty person – and that’s a bit of what I inspire to be!
http://soulrevolution.net/blog/ – I actually work with this site, so that’s probably cheating. 🙂 It’s not even remotely quilt-related, however! It’s about “how imperfect people become all God intended.”
love your new fabric line! recently bought the apron / tablerunner pattern – high hopes of making a few for gifts
you and your Mom have put so much creativity and hard work into your company these past 9+ years and we thank you!
Love your fabrics . As far as favorite blogs go;
paintinmyhair and tollipop.com
love the fabric, Fave blogs tollipop.com and paintinmyhair

A couple of my favorite blogs to read are http://lauragunn.typepad.com/paintinmyhair/ my dear friend from St. Louis and my sister-in-law’s blog at http://www.tollipop.com.
Heather, you have come a long way with your pattern designing…..and now with fabric. I met you several years ago at a retreat on Lake Carlos, it have been nice watching you take a dream and turn it into reality. My favorite blog to read is:
http://www.featheredfibers.wordpress.com
Karen Langseth
My friend bought a kit with this fabric when we were in South Carolina. I would love to win so I could have one also.
Wow a long list of people who would love to sew your quilt — and Me Too!
When i fall in love with a particular fabric, I have been putting it into an embroidery hoop and display it on the walls of my sewing room in groups. I just pin the extra fabric together on the back so when I get tired of it, I can put a new fabric in and then admire that one for awhile…
Favourite Blogs? I really enjoy My Recycled Bags at http://www.myrecycledbags.com/
and Simply Thrifty at http://www.simplythrifty.com/
but those are only two, I probably have 40 on my rss feed that I check on a regular basis, including this blog!
I just love your new fabric line. Wow and you totally redecorated your house around it, beautiful. I was sent here from Dandelion Quilts, so obviously I love that blog, but I will give you 2 more. Mrs. Schmenkman is a fav and so is Exhuberant Color.
Love the soft tones of the fabrics and those on the wall are great. Have found an inexpensive source of canvas’s and am about to try a fabric frames piece of silk ribbon embroidery.
My favourite blogs often relate to my friends, then a cross section of my interests, then those which have tutorials. Crazy Mom quilts, Above the clouds are a couple.
The colors and patterns are beautiful with Serenity – great name! Thank you for this chance to win such a nice prize!
Two of my fav blogs are:
Abyquilt
http://www.abyquilt.blogspot.com/
and

Love that bathroom!
the quilt on the wall in your family room is beautiful.
Thanks!

Love your website I just discovered it. I own two of your patterns and love them they are litttle charmers one and two. I have made all of the patterns in each of them and have just taken them out to use them again for Xmas presents.
Two of the blogs that I really enjoy are Bonnie Hunters All people quilt and Chooky Blue. I belong to 2 quilt guilds and am just starting to branch to design my own designs. I just did my first one and as soon as I get Xmas out of the way I have an idea for my next one. Sharon
I absolutely love your fabric, patterns and of course your quilts. You really inspire me. I am working on a couple of projects, but they are quite intese and therefore I have a slow turnover. I love the blog “Simplify” and of course yours. I love your niece on the quilt and I would like to make that quilt soon, when my other projects are done.
Hi, love your blog, love Fatquarters.com and backporchquilting.com. They are fun sites to look at the newest fabric.
I love the Serenity colors. Tan and light blue, they are so calming. I love you books Heather and the fact I met and enjoyed a class you taught here in Sioux City back in 2006 still inspires me. You are truly one of the great up and coming artists and designers in the quiltworld. I enjoy how you take the jellyrolls and charm packs and combine them into a quilt. Lois
This is my first time on your blog–addicting to say the least. I love the Serenity line. I’ve always en a fan of the darker colors but am beginning to think I may just have to change! I also enjoyed your trunk show that our guild put on at Walker.
I would like to say that I am so computer savvy that I am familiar with many blog sites but it is pretty new to me. This is my first adventure! You know, we middle aged people!!!!!!!! I do love to see what you have put together each week, love the pictures, everything. I feel like I am talking to a friend. As always, I love the patterns & fabric.
One more comment from me! 🙂 I’m late in the game here (over a year later!), but thought I’d tell you about a lovely blog you might enjoy if you haven’t already come across it: https://amybarickman.com/. I just came across her book “Vintage Notions”. Also, I have 2 blogs – “All Things Andrea” is about all the things I love; “In Season” is a recipe blog featuring seasonal produce. I’m working at improving my photography skills – your photos inspires me!! Here are my links:
