Diamond Diva

The new patterns have just arrived from the printer, so I get to give a little preview of what’s been happening around here lately.

I’ll show more than that, but I just wanted to sneak that photo in first!

In fact, I have so many photos that I decided to break up the preview into three separate posts.  That way I can show lots of photos, but the posts won’t get too long.  In addition, I can have three separate giveaways, giving more people a chance to win the new pattern.

The first pattern is called Diamond Diva.   (Yes, my love affair with 60-degree angles continues.  BTW – no special ruler is needed.)   The pattern began with the throw size quilt, but as usual, I couldn’t stop myself from coming up with other options!

For some reason, when I convert my PDF files of the cover to a JPG, the colors get off, so this next photo shows the color of the quilt better.  (The fabric line is Sanibel)

I chose to do a raw-edge applique technique for the brown diamonds.  Over time they will fuzz up to create a soft edge with lots of texture.  I haven’t used this quilt, so the edges aren’t that fuzzy yet, but over time they will be.  I just love the dimension that they add.  If you prefer not to have a loose raw edge,  just use a fusible product and a machine blanket stitch around the edges.

Of course, I had to make the new pattern in my Christmas line too.  Even though it’s called “At Home for the Holidays”, I left the Christmas prints out of this quilt, so it could stay out longer.

I possibly should put away my snow crystal vase though.  It is May after all.

I plan to turn the white and black print into a dust ruffle.  Someday . . .  . after market.

The pattern also comes with a runner option.  I think it looks like an argyle – when shown in the runner and with only two colors in the blocks.  I’ve always loved argyles. . . .

The runner works well on my dining room table and it’s small enough that I don’t have to remove it during the meal.

I also tried it over the chair in the bedroom.  That works too, but I have to say that my favorite thing about this runner is that it takes just 4 Fat Quarters!  (that doesn’t include the backing and binding).   So often I see a fabric line that I love, but know I shouldn’t buy the whole line.   Now I will just buy 4 Fat Quarters and make this little runner (in under an hour, I might add).

This pattern also has a little octagon topper included.  This one takes only 3 Fat Quarters – one for the center, one for the border, and one for sashing and binding.  I happen to like the center done up in two colors – as shown below.  It requires 6 Fat Quarters, but then you get two toppers out of the deal.  It’s really quick and easy, so you won’t mind making two!

I also made the topper in Christmas fabric . . . .

I’ve been trying it out around the house, and found a spot on my kitchen island.  It matches my Target dishes and chair cushions and it fits the space.

I found that this little topper fits into lots of spots around my house.  It’s fairly small, so it fits into nooks and crannies that quilts can’t normally fit into.

Like next to my computer –

Or over the bench in my dining room . .

You get the idea, so I’ll stop now.  I mentioned a give-away at the beginning of the post, so if you would like a chance to win a pattern, just leave me a comment to be entered to win.  I’m always curious to see what you think!  I’ll show the other two patterns in the next couple of days, then announce the winners next week.

See ya back here soon!

Since I’m addicted to fat quarters I love the runners, etc. What lovely ideas of where I could use them or the gifts I could make for family so no one would be left out. As always beautiful fabric and some more fats coming in the door. Will my sewing room hold them all? Or do we have reinforce the walls and floor. Just need to sew more another reason, the things we have to do to save our homes from collapsing. ( Happy Face )
