Day 5 of the Henry Glass Very Merry Blog Hop

Welcome!

Today is day five of the Henry Glass Very Merry Blog Hop!

The featured designers for today are:

This year we are talking about some of our favorite things for the Holidays – our favorite recipe, decoration, and tradition.  Following that, I will be sharing a free project and details on a giveaway.

Before we get to that, let’s start with some introductions.   My name is Heather and I have been designing under the name of Anka’s Treasures for the last 17 years.  I live in Minnesota with my husband Joel and our five month old son Carter.

I am mostly known for books and patterns, but I also design fabric for Henry Glass.  My current line is Seaside Cottage.

Soon, my Summer House line will be hitting stores.  I can’t wait!

And the line that I really can’t wait for – Here Fishy, Fishy.  It was designed to match the baby quilt that I made for Carter.   Here’s is just a sneak peek:

Now – onto those favorite holiday things –

1.  Recipe – I have so many favorite recipes, that it’s really hard to pick just one thing!  Holidays sweets are probably my favorite, so I thought I would share a super quick, super easy bar recipe.   They only take a few ingredients, you can make them in about five minutes.   You don’t even have to bake them.

They are called Salted Nut Roll Bars.  Even though I am showing them on a fall table, they mix in really well with a plate of Christmas goodies too.  Click here to print the recipe.

2.  Decorations –   Again, I have many.  Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved setting up the Christmas tree.  I used to beg Mom to let me set it up the day after Thanksgiving.

I still love to set up the tree and all the Christmas decorations.   I have a special attachment to many of the ornaments.  You may remember me sharing about them a few years back.  As a child, each year my Aunt Lynn would give us each an ornament.  As an adult, I really cherish that tradition she started!

3.  Traditions – I have lots of favorite family traditions.  As you can probably guess, sharing all the great Christmas goodies is one of them.   Even better is getting together to make Christmas cookies, though we don’t do this every year.

Exchanging gifts and opening presents is a favorite family tradition as well.  I love watching all the kids opening presents.  They have been waiting all year for this, so they can barely contain their excitement.

Gathering around the table for a Christmas meal is another favorite family tradition.  There is something about food and fellowship that goes so well together.

For our last HG Christmas blog hop, I designed a dish passer to help dress up your holiday table.  Click here for blog post containing the free pattern.  It’s really easy to make and only takes 3 fat quarters.

For this year’s project, I used the same criteria – It had to be quick and easy to make and I wanted it to use only 3 fat quarters.   I was brainstorming with my Mom and she suggested a children’s apron.  Within short order, we had a few aprons finished.  The apron takes less than an hour to make.  The ties are adjustable to fit different sizes.

I borrowed a few of my adorable nieces to help me model the aprons.  First up is Addi – wearing the basic apron.  It’s made from my Deck the Halls line.

Secondly, we have Kara and Abi – wearing aprons made from my Seaside Cottage line.

Kara’s apron has an optional pocket (cuteness and sassy pose sold separately!)

We also made an apron with some optional ric rac.

Another cute feature about the apron is that it’s reversible!

Click here to download the free pattern

Now, for the giveaway (for those of you who have made it this far through this long, long post!) –  I will be giving away sets of fat quarter to make the aprons shown.  Just leave a comment to enter for a chance to win one of the four fabric packs.  One entry per person please.  I will leave the giveaway open through the weekend, so check back next week to see if you are a winner.  You can also purchase the kits here.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by today.  I hope you are enjoying the blog hop!

Don’t forget to visit the Henry Glass Blog, to participate in a guessing game with baby pictures of all of the designers.  You don’t have to be right to win, just enter for a chance to win our huge grand prize!!!

I stumbled across your blog several months ago from a Pinterest post and I’ve been hooked ever since. I signed up immediately for email alerts so I wouldn’t miss a thing and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Thank you for another round of awesome inspiration!

  16. VickiT says:

Those girls are all just too cute. That blonde gene in your family appears to be as strong as my own. All three of my boys had blonde hair and blue eyes yet I have a dark blonde, almost brown hair/brown eyes. Their Norweigian father however, had the blonde hair and that totally took over.

I just LOVE your newest fabric collection with all those adorable fish and zig zags. Of course, I absolutely love all your fabric collections. Each one is just full of great color and design.

The salted nut rolls looks yummy. I don’t know what the other stuff is on your kitchen island but, that front dish in the blue casserole dish looks good, as does the round dish with the red and green glace cherries(I think) on top of the icing. Yum. I’d love to know what those two are.

And YOU! I bet you are so looking forward to the holidays this year with that adorable little guy who will be celebrating his very first holiday. How exciting for you both. Congratulations again.

  17. Kristy says:
