Welcome to the Flair for Fabric Blog Hop! I hope you have enjoyed following along. For those of you who may not be familiar with the book – In October of 2012, the designers from Henry Glass were asked to participate in making a project for a book. The idea came about as the Henry Glass crew was sitting in a restaurant, wondering about their flights home from Quilt Market. Hurricane Sandy was about to hit the East Coast – and as you know, the storm did severe damage. Our fellow HG designer Linda Lum DeBono got everyone on board and put in lots of hard work getting this book together. The Henry Glass designers donated their designs and all royalties will be donated to the Red Cross to help with the cause. So it’s a great cause, full of lots of fun projects and there are lots of fun fabric giveaways at each stop on the hop.

My project from the book is called Funky Flowers
It combines my love of piecing and machine applique.
At each stop along the blog hop, you will find tips from each designer on how they select fabric for their projects. The book contains many more tips from each designer. I have three things to share about how I select my fabrics –
1. I always work from collections. If I like the complete collection, I will probably like whatever I make from it. I may add a few prints to it, but it always gives me a good starting point so I don’t have to come up with the whole color scheme from scratch.
2. Include a focal print. My project from the book has two important prints – the large-scale floral on the vase and the stripe on the binding. Besides being the focal point – These two prints set the color scheme and pull everything together.
3. Always include at least 1 high contrast print that stands out from everything else. If you look through my books and patterns, you will see lots of examples of this. There are several examples of this from the Flair for Fabric book as well – like Jill’s Quilt and Linda’s pillow below. See how that black just pops?

Wow, so many collections, I love most anything Tula Pink or Holly Taylor
I really don’t have a favorite fabric collection. There are several I enjoy as I like colors that blend well together. I would have to say collections changes as my mood changes
I love any line by Holly Taylor (and Heather Mulder Peterson of course)! Northern Cardinal was prob one of my favs.
I love the fabric lines from Buggy Barn. I particularly like the muted colors in Bountiful Harvest.
My all time favorite fabric line is Sunkissed by SweetWater. But there are soo many beautiful lines out there! I just love fabric 🙂 The book looks great, I like your funky flowers. Thanks for the giveaway.

One of my favourite collections ever is Pumpkin and spice by Whimsicals (Red Rooster line)
I think I love every line by French General. But mostly I am a scrap quilter and just add fabrics I love to my stash and projects.

I love scrappy quilts but there are always several lines that catch my eye! I love the Simplicity line from 3 Sisters. I also love Orchard House and Jefferson County by Jeanne Horton.
I don’t have one special line. It’s what ever strikes me and what I’m creating. So many to choose from it’s really hard to pick a favorite.
With each new collection …I have a new favorite….I am always drawn to Buggy Barn..

I love all Kim Diehl’s fabric. I also love you fabric lines – and how they are so original.
There are so many pretty collections that it is hard to choose a favorite. I go by the colors that catch my eye and the quilt produced from the line.
I love it when colors and prints go together. I don’t have one specific collection that I could call my all time fav. I have sure enjoyed many of yours.
Your fabric tips sure resonated with me – especially #1. Honestly, I always feel insecure when I choose fabrics and usually go with a collection just to be on the safe side. It always seemed like that was the easy way out; your first tip made me smile and sure makes me feel better. 🙂 Park Drive is one of my favorites since it has some brights as well as some pastels; my tastes go from one side of the spectrum to the other! I don’t do Facebook.
I’ve been looking for some wintry fabrics for making table runner Christmas presents. Winter Frost over at Henry Glass is the loveliest!
I love all fabric but my fave would be I Love Puppies! I have a hard time finding dog fabric in quilt stores near me so this would be a wonderful addition to my fabric collection!
It’s the color the attracts me to a fabric, then the texture. So any piece that features “my favorite color of the day” is what I look for.
All the the Henry Glass designers have fabulous lines. Of course, I love all of yours especially Home for Harvest.
I love the fabric lines from Kate Spain, Riley Blake, Sweetwater, Henry Glass…. they always design beautiful collections with gorgeous designs and colours!!!
Oh that’s a hard question! I love anything by Basic Grey & Sweetwater, and I really love Bonnie & Camille’s Happy Go Lucky line.
I’m in love with Heritage Hollow.
As a new quilter I over-matched colors and soon learned how boring the finished product became. I also add either a high-contrast new color or a deeper shade of colors in the quilt. This helps your eye jump around and stay engaged in the design of the entire quilt and in the designs in each block.
I love fabric lines with birds and houses but to choose a favorite is impossible because I’d have to choose my fave for Christmas, juvenile , reproduction, novelty etc. Many faves, but all with color— except the neutrals!

I love any fabric collection that has a beautiful pattern and color. That they compliment each other and blend nicely. I love cotton fabrics. Thank you.
I have several fabric collections that I’m eyeing right now. Doe by Carolyn Friedlander, Birch Farms by Joel Dewberry and Horizons by Kate Spain. I’ve found that anything by Carolyn Friedlander or Kate Spain lands on my favorites list. And V& Co and Kate Spain will usually go together rather well.
I love the Dimples collection by Andover to use as semi-solids.
I love Jill Finleys jams and jellies. I really like all Kim Diehls collections too.
I make mostly scrappy quilts, so anything goes. I am not particular about the collection or the age of the fabric, only that it is good quality.
My ultimate favorite fabric line is Bed of Roses by Robyn Pandolph. My whole house coordinates with it! I also love Chocolat and Double Chocolat by 3Sisters. The lines are getting rather old, so I will need to find some new favorites soon.

Wow this is a hard question to answer because they are all fabulous! I am currently working on a quilt using fabric from Buggy Barn. I have totally fallen in love with this cute collection “Let it Be” by Shelly Comiskey that you have pictured above. It’s totally sweet!! There are just too many to even begin to choose one favorite collection.

I am into hearts so “A year of Love” by Mary Jane Carey from Holly Hill Quilt Designs catches my eye.

Honestly I love all fabric. 30’s are always my favorite. I’m addicted to those. Great tips I will put some to good use.
I have bought jelly rolls…does that count as a collection? My favourite quilt was made from a French General jelly roll. And I also love to admire the batik strip rolls at my LQS.
My all-time favorite collection is Strawberry Fields closely followed by Bliss. Then Marmalde. But hands down every Bonnie & Camille and Fig Tree Collection is great!

I love pink,purples,reds,pastels, so any collections that have those colors, or animals,florals, butterflies etc, I love there is not one collection just depends on what I feel like doing!
I typically don’t use full collections for my quilts. However, my favorite fabric designers are Kim Diehl, Jill Finley, and you!
Depends on what I am doing and what “speaks” to me. Interests are “Papillon” fabric collection, I have papillon dogs. Butterflies, dogs, nature themes, Wizard of Oz.

Currently my favorites are Here Fishy Fishy by you and Giraffe Crossing by Riley Blake Designs. I am making Christmas gifts for my two 9 month old great-nephews. A pleasant change from all of my Civil War quilts!
I like all kinds of collections, but absolute favorites would include Strawberry Fields by Fig Tree and Marmalade by Bonnie & Camille for summer, Gobble Gobble by Sandy Gervais for Thanksgiving, pretty much anything Holly Taylor, Serenity for any time : ), Pure by Sweetwater for boys, and You Whoo and Down Under by Shelly Comiskey for babies. There is no way I can pick a favorite : )

I am new to quilting and don’t have a favorite collection yet. I usually pick out the fabric by color and design.
I always have favourite collections! That’s why there’s a wee bit of a fabric storage problem here in my studio. I’m loving the Holiday Magic Collection right now.
There are lots of collections that I like. If I have to pick a favorite I do tend to lean towards anything from Kansas Troubles as I love those county colors.
I don’t have a favorite collection…I just love good quality fabrics. I’m starting to do some art quilts and both of Jamie Fingal lines are awesome. I also like Kaffe Fassett’s bold designs.

I have several favorite designers, including you, Bonnie & Camille, and Basic Grey. However, my all-time favorite collection is Chocolat by 3 Sisters.
It’s so difficult to choose a favourite fabric line, as they can become a favourite for a specific quilt design and then on to the next. I love anything by 3 Sisters and French General and Robyn Pandolph, but I think my very favourite was Paris Flea Market by 3 Sisters.
I would have to choose between several Minnick and Simpson lines–hard to pick a favorite.
I like the Fossil Fern blender fabrics and anything Shelly Comiskey designs also.
I don’t really have a favorite collection – yet! I’ve only been quilting for 14 months. I’ve made 7 queen sized quilts this year! I am appreciating color like never before! And having a lot of fun learning about the designers and creators of fabric and pattern lines.

I I absolutely adore your puppy fabric line. They are soooo sweet & mischievous looking. Anything that I like seems to be the civil war lines. I don’t know why. And of course Darlene Zimmerman’s stuff because it looks so much like what my gramma would have for her aprons. Loving your stuff 🙂

Very difficult to choose just one. I was taken with several Christmasy and wintry collections but I have chosen Just Basics. I love the circle design and the the fact that the designer used all 64 colours in the quilt.

I love to make scrappy quilts and to mix lines of fabrics. I like the Buggy Barn Basics (crazy about the dots!) and the Kim Diehl Buttercream backgrounds are awesome for fun scrappiness!
I have many favorites but I like Bonjour Cherie By Frances Newcombe for Art Gallery Fabrics in particular.
