During the process of writing the Trendy Table book and having the projects tested, I end up with several samples of each pattern. The original set from the book is out traveling from quilt shop to quilt shop. I had to hurry and finish the second set so they could head out on their quilt shop route as well. Today I wanted to share a couple of the runners from that second set. I will start with a couple of the Christmas options – because all the beautiful Christmas fabrics have been hitting the stores and you might “need” some!
Pattern Names: Wrapped and Frosted
Wrapped – The runner that made it into the book doesn’t look that much different, it just uses more current fabric and I really try to use the most current fabric I can find so people can replicate the look.
Here’s a close up of the second one again. It uses several prints from Basic Grey’s past fabric lines, long with a few basics from my stash. The grey print with the red cardinals is another Moda designer – Kate and Birdie I think.
I would also love to see this one done up in bright birthday prints. It would be fun to have out on the table for parties . . . . and we are celebrating Carter’s 4th birthday this weekend, but I have not had time to get it done. (Plus, I did a search for birthday fabrics and I don’t see any currently on the market)
The second quilt from the photos the Frosted pattern.
It really looks different from the original – The black background is so dramatic. The photo in the book shows it with an aqua background.
Lastly, I have the Starburst runner. The original version from the book uses prints from my stash.
I had it tested in Vintage Picnic by Bonnie and Camille.
The sun was a little bright when I took the photos, so the color isn’t totally accurate, but you can see the prints and quilting really well.
If you are looking for the book, you can find it here.
It’s great to read about books like this but if there’s no link where the book can be purchased it doesn’t do a lot of good just to read about it! I’m sure a lot quilt stores are carrying the popular book but if there’s no LQS, where can we go to get it?
Hi Dana – There is a link to our online store to buy the book. You can find it near the bottom of this post. As far as local quilt shops that carry the book, we can tell you which shops in your area that have ordered the book through us (if we know what state you live in), but most of our books are sold through distribution, so we have no idea where they all end up.
I think your designs are adorable! I bought this book as soon as I saw it. You have a great eye for design. I can’t wait to make my new table runners!!
Oh gosh! I really love Frosted made like this one with the darker background. Beautiful.
FOUR years old? Really? How in the world can it already be 4yrs since you had Carter? Wow.
I am so glad you posted these today because I only made a mental note to buy your book and had forgotten. Now I will put it only a ‘real’ paper list since my brain obviously doesn’t work as well. Haha
Way to go Heather! What a lot of careful, creative work you do – with each publication. Enjoy the birthday doings – time flies by.
You don’t give yourself enough credit! You have a great eye for design, the patterns are easy enough for a beginner (like me) and they can be a jumping board for the more experienced. Give yourself a big pat on the back for a job well done!
Congrats on hitting the best seller spot, Heather! I need to order your new book, though I am still working on projects from another of your fabulous books, On the Run Again. I taught the Spinners pattern from that book at a retreat last week; if you’d like to see how different the Spinners design looks depending on the fabrics chosen, please check out my blog post of June 12 on firstlightdesigns.com. It’s safe to say all of your designs are winners!
You have made a very good point. Not only do you need to stay up on what people want, the trends seem to change with the wind. For myself, I love table runners. Mostly because I can make them up quickly and change the look on my table. They can be seasonal, or like you said, for a birthday. I think just using a fabric a child would like would work for a birthday. It’s basically like making a baby quilt or one for a toddler. They will outgrow it, but oh my what fun.
I really like the black and red Frosted runner. Looks more like a poinsettia this way.
