Merry Christmas

I just wanted to stop in quick to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!   I appreciate you taking time throughout the year to stop by, leave a comment, read a post or two, ask about the boys, etc, etc. – and I just wanted you to know that!

Speaking of boys, how about a few photos I took of the boys while trying to make our Christmas card?

Blog Hop Winners and Flash Back Friday

Thanks to everyone who participated in the blog hop!  It’s been a week since my post, so the giveaway has been closed and some winners have been randomly chosen.

The winner of the “Let it Be” bundle and PDF copy of the book is:

Sandy A in St. Louis

The winner of the I Love Puppies Fat Quarter Pack is:

Julie Pruett

Please email your shipping addresses to me at hmulder@wecnet.com.  I will get your prizes out right away!

Today I thought I would share a few more runner from my “On the Run Again” book.  A while back I shared some of the runners that were made by the testers, and I never got around to sharing the rest.  They are all small and easy to complete – even in time for Christmas gifts.  As part of Flash Back Friday, I am offering the book on sale for 25% off(click here).  Enjoy!

The first one is called Framed Florals.  The name suits the original version from the book better, as this version is done in Christmas fabrics, not florals.

The fabrics are from Basic Grey’s new Christmas line called 25th and Pine.

The next one is called Spinners and uses the same Christmas line shown above.

This one is super quick and easy to make.  I also love how it’s small enough to be tucked into many spots around the house.  I find it to be such a useful size.

The original one from the book uses an assortment of Bonnie and Camille prints.

This block also makes a great runner

The next runner is called Happy Dance.  (As you can see, these photos were taken last fall, as Minnesota is currently very white)

And the original that was shown in the book.  I like the colors of the original best, but the quilting on the second one better 😉

This runner also makes a good topper –

Last up, the Granny Square Stars – using one of Kate Spain’s newer lines from Moda called Sunnyside.

Flair for Fabric Blog Hop – My Day

Welcome to the Flair for Fabric Blog Hop!  I hope you have enjoyed following along.  For those of you who may not be familiar with the book – In October of 2012, the designers from Henry Glass were asked to participate in making a project for a book.  The idea came about as the Henry Glass crew was sitting in a restaurant, wondering about their flights home from Quilt Market.  Hurricane Sandy was about to hit the East Coast – and as you know, the storm did severe damage. Our fellow HG designer Linda Lum DeBono got everyone on board and put in lots of hard work getting this book together.  The Henry Glass designers donated their designs and all royalties will be donated to the Red Cross to help with the cause.  So it’s a great cause, full of lots of fun projects and there are lots of fun fabric giveaways at each stop on the hop.

You can click here to see more projects from the book.

My project from the book is called Funky Flowers

It combines my love of piecing and machine applique.

At each stop along the blog hop, you will find tips from each designer on how they select fabric for their projects.  The book contains many more tips from each designer.  I have three things to share about how I select my fabrics –

1.  I always work from collections.  If I like the complete collection, I will probably like whatever I make from it.  I may add a few prints to it, but it always gives me a good starting point so I don’t have to come up with the whole color scheme from scratch.

2.  Include a focal print.  My project from the book has two important prints – the large-scale floral on the vase and the stripe on the binding.  Besides being the focal point – These two prints set the color scheme and pull everything together.

3.  Always include at least 1 high contrast print that stands out from everything else.  If you look through my books and patterns, you will see lots of examples of this.  There are several examples of this from the Flair for Fabric book as well – like Jill’s Quilt and Linda’s pillow below.  See how that black just pops?

Do you have any tips to share on selecting fabric?  Share them with me on my Facebook page and be entered to win a pack of fat quarters from my “I Love Puppies” collection.  Click here to link over to my page.  I will announce the winner next week and post the winner’s  name both here and on my Facebook page.

Henry Glass is also giving away some fabric one lucky reader.  All you have to do is answer one question – Do you have a favorite fabric collection?  Just leave a comment here on my blog to enter to win the bundle shown below.  I’m curious to see if some of your favorites are the same as mine!  By leaving a comment, you will also be entered to win a free e-copy of our book “A Flair for Fabric”.  A random winner will be chosen one week from today and you’ll be notified by email if you win.
